The Best Devil's Food Cake
The secret ingredient makes it different than any cake you've ever tasted- and delicious! This is a recipe that generations have loved and clamored for.
1/2 cup margarine
2/3 cup cocoa, dissolved in boiling water
1 T. lemon flavoring
2 cups sugar
1 cup sour milk or sweet milk with 1 T. vinegar
1 1/2 cup flour
2 t baking soda, dissolved in boiling water
Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add sour milk. Mix cocoa with boiling water to make a thick paste. Add to milk mixture. Then add flour and flavoring. Beat well. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to batter. Grease and flour long pan or 2 layer pans. Bake in 350 degree oven until done.
Icing for Devil's Food Cake
3/4 box powdered sugar
2 heaping T cocoa
3 T margarine
1-2 t lemon flavoring
Mix with strong, black, cold coffee. Be careful to not thin out icing too much.
